I thought you might enjoy seeing these three finches hanging around the birdfeeder in my friend’s yard in New Hampshire. There are two female Purple Finches and one female American Goldfinch. Note the female Purple Finch at the top looking directly at the camera. She must have been curious. There are literally dozens of different kinds of finches. Finches, in general, are small birds with conical beaks and forked tails, with the exception of the House Finch which has very little indentation of the tail.
