What do I remember the most about this photo of the swimming Mallard? The duck was coming towards me straight on, moving toward the camera and providing me with this close-up. Photographing the subject at a slight angle lets us see his eye and the beautiful blue and green of his head. Notice the white band around the neck and the water beads on the Mallard’s face, adding texture to the picture. Mallards are “dabbling” ducks. They tip over with their tails in the air and eat underwater vegetation. Perhaps this duck may have just come up from a meal.
