A quiet sentinel stands guard on his post, surveying the marshes at Village Creek Landing on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Great Blue Herons can stand motionless for long periods of time. They adapt well to a variety of water systems, like rivers, swamps, and coastlines, and have developed a diverse diet. There is also a completely white version of the Blue Heron found in south Florida.
