The male Fiddler Crab is very distinctive with its one overly large claw, as opposed to the female which has two equal sized claws. I photographed this male Fiddler Crab as he was digging out his burrow and bringing sand to the surface. Fiddler Crabs are quite industrious and will make elaborate burrows beneath the beach. They will cover the entrance with mud or sand at high tide for protection and emerge at low tide to look for food.
