Male Anhingas are swimming birds of the Darter family located primarily in the south. It is also known as the snake bird or water turkey. The Anhinga got the nickname of snake bird because only its head and long neck stick out of the water. The male Anhinga is basically black with white or silver streaks on its wings that form a beautiful pattern. It has a pointed bill and very long tail. It is common in ponds, lakes, fresh-water swamps, and creeks like this one off Villager Drive.
