Great Egret on the hunt at Gould’s Inlet
Great Egrets fish in shallow water along the shore and tidal pools of St. Simons Island. Both Great Egrets and Snowy Egrets are regular visitors to Gould’s Inlet. Great Egrets hunt mostly for fish, but also eat aquatic insects, frogs, and crustaceans. They are very stealth on the hunt and capture their prey with a sudden, quick jab of their bill. The stately and tall Great Egret is the symbol of one of the oldest environmental groups in the United States, the National Audubon Society.
