Fiddler Crabs may have a face only a mother could love, but I have to admit that I kind of like them too. You know when you go to the beach and you see all these tiny creatures scurrying around and quickly sliding down little holes in the sand? Well, welcome to the world of the Fiddler Crab. I took this photo at Gould’s Inlet on St. Simons Island, and it was the first time I had seen what they really look like in the wild. For this kind of shot it is really important to have a camera with a good zoom lens to be able to magnify a very small subject like the Fiddler Crab. You must also have a lot of patience. They run around so fast that I have taken lots of blurry photos of them. The Fiddler Crab’s eyes are on the top of two stalks in the middle of the carapace or shell, and they have a very good capability of seeing vertical motion.
