The female Hooded Merganser isn’t as colorful as her male counterpart, but what a little red-headed beauty she is on the water! The females are brown and gray and usually nest in tree cavities, or sometimes in nesting boxes that have been set up for Wood Ducks. They usually lay about a dozen eggs and will incubate the eggs on their own.
