Unlike the mostly black male, female Anhingas have a brown head and lighter colored throat, neck, and upper chest as evidenced in this photo. The female will lay anywhere from two to five eggs and both parents incubate and feed their young. Anhingas consume mostly fish but sometimes will eat small turtles and baby alligators. Anhingas are related to both cormorants and pelicans.
