This closeup provides a good look at the many colors of the Wood Duck. The head alone features blue, green, black, purple, and, of course, that magnificent red eye. The bill is also red with gray accents and yellow at its base. Note the white stripes on the head and neck and the white throat. What a beauty! Look at the rich blue and black of its wings and back and the burgundy near its tail. There are many colorful waterfowl in the world, but few can rival the striking brilliance of the Wood Duck.
