This Bumble Bee picture gives us a good opportunity to discuss Macro Photography. What is macro photography? It’s when you photograph something very small and make it larger than life size. Why do we do this? To see the incredible detail and texture that are not visible to the naked eye. Using macro photography, you are able to see exactly what the bee looks like–its eyes, its legs, and how surprisingly hairy its body is. Macro photography used to be a bit difficult before the advent of digital cameras, but now many digital cameras have a macro feature on them. It takes some practice, but the amazing photos you can capture are well worth it.
A final word about Bumble Bees: If you have every watched them flying from flower to flower pollinating, you will completely understand where the phrase, “Busy as a Bee” comes from.
