As members of the raptor family, Black Vultures are birds of prey that are prevalent in the southeast. I caught this one sitting on a dead tree stump at Gascoigne Bluff. Not the most beautiful of birds, but it is interesting in its own way. Notice its big brown eye and hooked beak. Black Vultures have excellent eyesight but do not have a voice box, so the only sounds they make are either hisses or grunts.
