If you are just developing an interest in taking pictures of wildlife, let me welcome you to Backyard Bird Photography. When you are beginning, one of the best places to hone your photographic skills is in your own backyard, or front yard for that matter. Birds are all around us and you can work on composition, lighting, macro photography, and other techniques with barely having to leave your house. How do I get birds to come to my yard, you may ask? FEED THEM! If you feed them, they will come. It’s important to put out seed feeders in your yard, as well as suet and fresh, clean water. If you do these things on a regular basis, your yard will most likely be filled with a wide variety of birds. That’s what happened in my backyard, and it can happen in yours too.
In this series, I am going to show you a number of different birds that I have photographed in my own backyard. Some of the photos I even took through my kitchen window. There are many ways to take these shots without disturbing the birds, and we will discuss these methods as we go along. Welcome aboard!
