American White Pelicans are much larger than their Brown Pelican relatives. They have a 9-foot wing span, and, unlike the Brown Pelican, they do not dive from the sky to catch their fish. Instead they use their wings to beat the surface of the water and herd fish together for easy pickings. Their coloring is very similar to the Wood Stork, mostly white with black underneath that is visible in flight.
