American Oystercatchers are unique shore birds found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. They are perfectly color coordinated with their long orange bills and orange eye circle. They forage for food in the shallows and are particularly fond of shellfish like oysters, clams, and mussels. I photographed this one on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia. It’s always a treat to see these colorful, energetic birds on the beaches in the southeast.
